{"id":230,"date":"2009-09-13T16:38:30","date_gmt":"2009-09-13T21:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pastorfrog.com\/?p=230"},"modified":"2009-09-13T17:34:57","modified_gmt":"2009-09-13T22:34:57","slug":"and-justice-for-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pastorfrog.com\/?p=230","title":{"rendered":"and Justice for All"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is kind of a continuation of &#8220;Well FORGIVE me!&#8221;\u00a0 It deals with the place of forgiveness in situations of repeated abuse.\u00a0 Can you mesh forgiveness with justice?\u00a0 Is there a way to give grace without promoting lawlessness?<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t mention this in the talk, but if you think about it, the answer to that questions was Jesus giving his life on the cross.\u00a0 If God wanted to forgive everybody without any desire for change, Jesus wouldn&#8217;t have needed to die.\u00a0 God could have just said &#8220;I forgive everybody no matter what.&#8221;\u00a0 And it would have allowed everybody to continue living wicked and selfish lives.\u00a0 But then\u00a0Heaven and Earth\u00a0would both be places of eternal evil because the law would have been thrown away to make place for universal forgiveness.\u00a0 But in making his ultimate sacrifice, Jesus demonstrated the legal consequence of our evil as a motivation for us to stop breaking God&#8217;s law and live a life in accordance with all God asks of us.\u00a0 So if we are willing to turn away from our selfish lawlessness and obey God, he can forgive us and promote justice at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus said &#8220;Those who obey my commandments are the ones who love me.&#8221;\u00a0 So if we truly care about Jesus and what he said and did for us, our lives must be changed out of our love for him.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t live as enemies of God if we truly love him.\u00a0 So when people say something like &#8220;Just ask Jesus into your heart&#8221; it&#8217;s never some mantra or empty religious ritual that saves you.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the fact that the love Jesus demonstrated for us with his life, death, and resurrection, motivates us to return love to him and live lives that will make him happy.\u00a0 We enter into a relationship of mutual love and find forgiveness, not as a technicality for some empty prayer, but out of deep desire for God to be reunited with us in purity and righteousness.<\/p>\n<p>So real grace not only forgives a perpetrator, but also promotes his or her best interest, which is eternal righteousness in accordance with God&#8217;s law.<\/p>\n<p>Get it?<\/p>\n<p class=\"powerpress_links powerpress_links_mp3\" style=\"margin-bottom: 1px !important;\">Podcast: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pastorfrog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sermons\/080831-andjusticeforall.mp3\" class=\"powerpress_link_pinw\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Play in new window\" onclick=\"return powerpress_pinw('https:\/\/www.pastorfrog.com\/?powerpress_pinw=230-podcast');\" rel=\"nofollow\">Play in new window<\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pastorfrog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sermons\/080831-andjusticeforall.mp3\" class=\"powerpress_link_d\" title=\"Download\" rel=\"nofollow\" download=\"080831-andjusticeforall.mp3\">Download<\/a> (Duration: 34:50 &#8212; 16.0MB)<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is kind of a continuation of &#8220;Well FORGIVE me!&#8221;\u00a0 It deals with the place of forgiveness in situations of repeated abuse.\u00a0 Can you mesh forgiveness with justice?\u00a0 Is there a way to give grace without promoting lawlessness?
